Hiker's Log, Star Date 2021

One good way to immortalize your trek is keeping a hiker's log of each day's activities.  That doesn't mean detailed descriptions of everything that happened to you on each day of our trek.  Don't get me wrong, it can be as detailed as you want it to be.  It just doesn't have to be.  If you just log one memorable thing that happened that day then you've kept a pretty good record.

Other things you can record is who all is along with you on your trek.  What the weather was like, how you liked the food, the names of each camp we stayed in, a staff member that made part of your trip interesting, all make for fun reading later on.

Another bonus is it would meet requirement 4 of the Scouting Heritage merit badge.

Attend either a BSA national jamboree, OR world Scout jamboree, OR a national BSA high-adventure base. While there, keep a journal documenting your day-to-day experiences. Upon your return, report to your counselor what you did, saw, and learned. You may include photos, brochures, and other documents in your report.

If you want to sign up for the Scouting Heritage merit badge then ask Mr. Razem at the next meeting for a merit badge card.  I'll be happy to be the councilor for it.

The logbook itself is best if it's a little pocket notebook, like this one:

Academy has some really great looking waterproof pocket notebooks and pens made for writing in bad conditions.  However they're pretty pricey.  If you want to get one of those then have at it!  It's just not necessary.  I'll just keep mine in a ziplock bag to keep the weather off of it.
